There are certain items in my closet I find myself reaching for again and again.
These are my “secret weapon” clothes.
The Jardigan by MM.LaFleur
This "Jardigan" (jacket + cardigan) has been a staple of my working wardrobe since it came out. I have it in black and grey. It is soft but structured, and doesn’t wrinkle even when crumpled up in a work bag or on a long flight. It tapers in at the waist, so it has a slimming effect over a sheath dress.
The Tory 2.0 Dress by MM.LaFleur
There’s a reason the Tory Dress became an internet sensation (see here, here, and here). It feels great to put on after a long (excessive) weekend, is just different enough to catch the eye, and always impresses. The top is loose-fitting as if it were a separate shirt, but it’s actually one glorious, machine-washable piece. Bonus points that it’s all ethically made in the U.S.A.
The Shirt by Rochelle Behrens
Ever dealt with shirt gape? The Shirt aims to be the solution, and I’m a big fan. The front placket (the part with buttons down the center) has secret interior buttons to prevent gaping. It’s also made of super crisp, soft cotton (similar to the Brooks Brothers Non-Iron Shirt, but more stretchy).
Everlane silk button downs
Everlane is online-only, thus saving costs (which are passed on to to the consumer) by cutting out the brick and mortar. Besides being fairly priced, the Everlane shirts I’ve bought are slim-cut (more so than Equipment, IMO) and fit with just the right amount of drape. They come in several gorgeous neutrals that work great on their own or peaking out under a dress.
Loeffler Randall shoes
I bet at least 1/3 of the shoes in my closet are Loeffler Randall. They’re unique enough that plenty of people ask me day to day where they’re from, but not too crazy to wear to work. They’re a bit cool, a bit feminine, and plenty stylish. This cheetah pair is especially versatile.
BB Dakota (P)leather Jacket
I’d admired this pleather (srsly!) jacket for a while, and when I finally brought it home, I found myself pairing it with way more than I expected. It toughens up a sweet or boring-ish dress that you’ve worn a million times before, and works equally well for the weekend.
On so many days, I’ll be just about ready to leave the house but feel kind of bored with what I have on. Adding statement earrings always takes my outfit up a notch and makes me feel happy/excited to head into work (even on a Monday :| ).
M. Gemi flats
M. Gemi produces luxury Italian shoes, at a (more) affordable price. They release a new limited edition set each Monday, which is a super fun way to start the week. Lately I’ve been obsessed with the Stellato. They are sort of menswear but with a beautiful, feminine cut. The Natural color works great with both cropped pants and dresses.
