We all know the feeling - you are rushed into making an impulse decision while getting dressed, you pull something that isn’t 100%, and you get to work and your outfit feels like death. Why does what we wear have an impact on our attitudes and therefore our work product? We don’t know the scientific answer, but we know it does.
The way clothes make us feel is one of the primary reasons we started The Loyal Closet. Despite the best of intentions, sometimes bad outfits slip through and we find ourselves at the office dealing with the dilemma. Here’s how to handle, and how to avoid again:
Identify the problem item. Is it a too tight waistband, an odd heel height or an overly fluffy top? Find out what the item is and get rid of it. If you hate wearing it and it makes you feel gross, it is not worth the space in your closet.
Don’t buy the problem item again - not matter how addictive it is in the store. This is a common addiction - we want to make a product work for our body and it just won’t. Don’t waste your hard-earned cash on something that is not working for you.
Build your “In Case of Emergency” button. Pull together a go to outfit that will make you feel good and remember it is in your closet. On the mornings you can’t handle making a decision- reach for this safety net. The outfit doesn’t have to be perfect, but you don’t need it to be- it just needs to get you through the day with no negative impact on your mood. Have it handy and remember it is there when you are running behind and stressed.
