We all have our “thing” right? I have never known one of my best friends to have a bad brow day - it's on point. Every day. For another friend, lipstick is always freshly applied, lined and perfected. I feel naked without an uber glossy manicure. At The Loyal Closet, we get questions from clients about which colors are office appropriate and which are not. Our simple answer is - if you are willing to put in the work, about anything goes. If not, skip it and go sheer or neutral.
Here are some quick tips to make sure your nail game is working for you at the office:
- No Chip Card Here. The number one rule of any nail game is to keep the chips at bay. You can get away with most any reasonable color or length so long as your cuticles are trimmed and your polish is in full luster. As soon as chips start appearing, take the color off.
Upkeep. The best way to keep nails in their full glory is not to pick at them. Keep a nail file on hand to file off any small chips that pop up around the edges. Even a resulting oddly shaped nail is less distracting than a chipped one. If your nails start to look dull or dry, time to schedule a manicure.
Color. Neutrals are always a good choice if you don’t want to stand out too much in a conservative office. However, I am a strong proponent of any nail color at any office - so long as your nails are clean, trimmed and have a no-chip shine about them. Yes, neon can be a distraction and yes sometimes older generations think Lincoln-Park-After-Dark is “goth.” However, if you are dressed business appropriately, your nail color is only an accessory to your outfit. Simply put - don’t collaborate your nails with your outfit to create a certain “look” - like beach or death metal concert bound.
Here are some of of our go-to color favorites that always work:
Length. Length is variable depending on what you are comfortable with as long as your nails are filed and look “clean.” But, the long pointy version brought back by Khloe Kardashian doesn’t werk werk werk, literally or figuratively!
Extras. Glitter, random colors, hoops, spray designs, etc. Just no.
Know yourself. If the nail game ain’t your game - don’t force it! Clean, trimmed and no-polish nails look and feel much better than chipped or dull nails. Treat yourself to a manicure with girlfriends and simply ask the nail tech to buff your nails. This brings the natural oils to the surface, promoting shine and health.
