Loyal Lovelies: Loafers

Hi! New series on the blog - we'll share the latest thing either Lacey or I are obsessed with, and why. Mine lately? Loafers. They amp up the formality/coolness factor of any outfit, are comfortable and on trend. It started with the Gucci mule loafer, but at this point there are so many good options available at reasonable prices.

What's to like?

I am really bad at getting my pants hemmed. I try, but sometimes I just do not succeed. This is where cropped trousers come in.  Ballet flats + cropped pants look too casual / frumpy on me for some reason. Pointed toe flats and loafers are ideal in these situations because they really pull together cropped pants in a way that ballerina flats do not. The pointed heel elongates and lengthens. Most loafers have at least a tiny heel, which makes you walk straighter and with purpose.

How I wear them

Work: Pair with cropped trousers and a cool tie-neck blouse. Or use them in place of your standard pumps with sheath dresses. Loafers make any feminine, colorful pieces you may own a tad more serious.

Weekend: Wear with cropped, frayed end jeans and a cool shirt.  I love taking my loafers on vacations where I'm going to be doing a lot of walking. They pull everything together even when all you are wearing are jeans and a t-shirt.

My favorites

Some of my favorites lately are pictured. Enjoy!

These from Vince Camuto have the most substantial heel of the bunch, which I like. The perforated leather reads summery in lighter shades but can easily transition to winter in not-so-cold climates in the velvet or black colors.

The Sam Edelman Bit Loafer is a good Gucci knockoff in black. It also comes in these fun patterns which could really jazz up a standard black and white outfit for work. These would also look great with a plain white tee or sweater and leggings or jeans on weekends.

The Louise et Cie flat loafers are so on trend in white and with the open-back. Louise et Cie shoes tend to fit me so well and really last beyond what their price point would suggest. Also comes in metallic, brown and black.

The Everlane Modern Point has been a favorite of mine for a while now.  The design is simple and sleek, and the price is way better than you'd expect. Definitely size up 1/2 size as these run small, although they do stretch with wear. I am really liking the black and white version right now.

These Sam Edelman tassel loafers are too good to resist. I always love a good tassel and these check all the trends - mule, tassel, loafer.
